Paver Sealing Step by Step Process
3 Step Cleaning
Thorough Paver Cleaning in 3 Easy StepsBefore applying a protective sealant, it's essential to thoroughly clean the paver or stone surface. At Wild West Washing, We follow a 3 step cleaning process to ensure maximum adhesion and long lasting results.
Turbo Cleaning- We start by using a high pressure turbo nozzle to blast away built up dirt, grime, and organic matter from the paver surface. This powerful pre treatment helps loosen and lift stubborn stains.
Soft Wash- Next, we apply a gentle, biodegradable cleaning solution and scrub the pavers with specialized brushes. This soft wash step ensures a deeper clean without damaging the material.
Surface Cleaning- Finally, we rinse the pavers with clean water to remove any remaining debris or cleaning solution residue. This final pass leaves the surface perfectly prepped for sealing.
Sanding
Once the paver or stone surface has been thoroughly cleaned, the next crucial step is sanding. Proper sanding creates an optimal surface for the sealer to adhere to, ensuring a smooth, even finish. At Wild West Washing, we use the correct sand "joint sand" and techniques to prepare the area.
Sand Removal- First, we carefully remove any excess joint sand or gravel/debris from between the pavers. This creates a clean, level surface for the sealer.
Joint Sand Replacement- Finally, we replace the joint sand, carefully filling in the gaps between pavers. This helps stabilize the surface and prevents future shifting or cracking. The sanding process may seem simple, but it's a critical step that should not be overlooked. Proper surface preparation is the key to achieving long lasting results with your paver or natural stone sealing project.
Paver Sealing
The sealer is carefully applied using professional-grade sprayers and rollers to ensure a smooth, consistent, and even coating across the entire paver surface. This meticulous application process helps eliminate missed spots, streaks, and uneven coverage, ensuring that every paver and joint receives the protection it needs. Depending on the homeowner’s preferences and the desired appearance, either a natural-look sealer, which preserves the original color and texture of the pavers, or a wet-look sealer, which enhances color depth and provides a rich, glossy finish, may be selected.
Once applied, the sealer penetrates deeply into the pavers and the joint sand, creating a durable protective barrier that helps extend the life of the hardscape. This barrier reduces water absorption, minimizes the risk of erosion and joint sand loss, and protects against damage caused by UV rays, oil stains, dirt, mold, mildew, algae, and other organic growth. In addition to improving durability, sealing enhances the overall appearance of the pavers, making colors appear more vibrant while helping maintain a clean, well-maintained look for years to come.
Curing
At Wild West Washing, we follow a comprehensive 4 step process to seal and protect your paver and natural stone surfaces.
We start with a 3 Step cleaning process turbo washing, soft washing, and final surface cleaning to remove all dirt, grime, and organic matter.
Next, we carefully sand the area to create an optimal surface for the sealer to adhere to, filling in any gaps between pavers.
Last, We then apply two coats of high quality sealer a deep "flood" coat followed by a lighter "mist" coat for maximum coverage and protection.
Curing Period- Finally, we recommend allowing 72 hours of curing time before exposing the sealed surface to heavy foot traffic, vehicles, or furniture placement. This ensures the sealer fully bonds and hardens for long lasting results
